OUR TEAM
PE-Kenya currently operates under the management of a Board of advisors and a secretariat which includes staff, volunteers and interns from time to time depending on the on-going projects. In addition, a governing Board of advisors (BOA) comprising of individuals from different expertise performs organizational advisory roles and volunteer their time to offer skills & services as the organization may require.
Capacity to carry out the work:
The board is the policy making organ of the organization while the secretariat implements the programs. The Board meets quarterly and lays out specific roles for each person in the secretariat.
Staff size and organizational structure:
Positive Exposure – Kenya is still in its first phase. The executive Director works for the organization full time and receives a monthly honorarium, other staffs are hired on contract basis depending on the specific project requirements and scope. We also get technical and skills support from people who volunteer from time to time.

A passionate and visionary leader who within a span of 7 years has risen within the KNCHR ranks from Head of Public Education and Training; Head of Research and Compliance and Deputy Commission Secretary and now the Commission Secretary.
A teacher by profession, Dr. Mogesa began his career as a high school Principal employed by the Teachers Service Commission in 1992 before venturing to his calling of working on and with learners with disability. His previous employers include Dysons Wood trust, England, Lake Institute of Tropical Medicine, Kenya Society for the Blind and International Council for the Education of People with Visual Impairment. This cumulative experience led him to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights where he has honed his human rights skills.
A doctorate degree holder with a keen interest in teaching, writing and training, he has reviewed, authored, co authored varied publications and undertaken a raft of consultancies that reflect leadership per excellence and his passion for the education sector in Kenya. He has chaired and has been a member to various Government and Non Governmental committees and task-forces. He is a Certified Public Mediator and accredited trainer in the field of Human Rights, Human Rights Based Approach to planning and development and Monitoring and Evaluation. He has over time acquired vast experience at an advisory and supervisory capacity in several African countries.
Ivy Kihara

Ivy is a human rights lawyer with over 10 years’ experience working in Kenya. She currently works as the Deputy Director with InformAction,

She currently works as the Deputy Director with InformAction, (http://informaction.tv/) the Kenyan organisation founded by Maina Kiai (immediate former Special Rapporteur on the Freedoms of Assembly and Association) and renowned British Journalist Lucy Hannan that uses documentaries as its main tool in its social justice activities. Ivy returned to the organisation where she worked between 2011-2013 as Head of Projects and Administration and also served on the Board from 2013- 2019.
Ivy also worked as the East and Horn of Africa Representative for Protection International. PI strives to have an enabling environment where HRDs can continue to do their work safely. This is through capacity building based on a developed manual, research and advocacy with duty bearers and stakeholders. http://protectioninternational.org/
Ivy also worked with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute, a Swedish academic and capacity building organisation, (http://rwi.lu.se/) and the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (www.knchr.org). This experience has given her a wealth of experience in human rights, post-election violence and capacity building having worked on Kenya, Burundi and Southern Africa. She holds an LLM in Human Rights and Democratisation from the University of Pretoria’s Centre for Human Rights and an LLB with Human Resource Management from Keele University, England.
She is also a member of the Kenya Bar Association, Kenya Peace, Truth and Justice Network, Human Rights Education Associates, INPROL, INEEE and New tactics in Human Rights.Ivy is a torch bearer for the Dr. Choksey Albinism Foundation which strongly advocates for children with albinism to be interrelated into mainstream education systems. http://www.albinismfoundation.com/ In 2015 Ivy was appointed to two schools Board of Management in Kiambu County- St. Andrews Secondary School in Ndenderu and Kiambaa Secondary School.

Ivy is passionate about education, setting up systems and structures and may one day transition into working with government.
Ivy is also a Board member of 3W a Kenyan based organisation that front the voice of women rights in all spheres https://3wkenya.org. In 2016 Ivy was invited to be a mentor in the Young African Leaders initiative. Ivy is really committed to service to her community and recently began working with the Art of Music Foundation http://artofmusic.co.ke/ as a volunteer consultant -resource mobilisation. The foundation teaches and encourages children and the youth in underprivileged parts of Kenya to engage in learning to play musical instruments with an aim of changing their lives.
Ivy has horned her research and writing skills from the organisations she has worked in. She has multicultural appreciation and diversity experience due to the different people she has engaged with in her work and volunteer positions.
Ivy is a Christian. She is an avid reader, likes to cook and enjoys listening and collecting music. She also enjoys walking and makes a habit of walking at night whenever she travels to countries where this is possible. Ivy has never been married and has no children.

She is a social entrepreneur with Suncare Alternatives, a firm that seeks solutions to the sustainable delivery of sunscreen to persons with albinism in Kenya and the region.

Nyambura has worked with various human rights institutions as a consultant on social, cultural, economic and social rights and is currently focusing on projects that highlight the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. She previously worked in the tourism and hospitality industry before transitioning to advocacy and campaigns.
She holds a Masters Degree in International Relations from the United States International University- Africa where she graduated with distinction. She is currently enrolled in the transdisciplinary PhD program at Athena Institute, Vrije University Amsterdam with a research interest in albinism and sun protection.
Nyambura is a founding member of the Albinism Society of Kenya and continues her advocacy through various platforms and serves as a resource in this topic. She is passionate about public speaking and debate and has won awards in this arena. Her interests also extend to film production and the production of the short film Baba Njoki in 2016.

Evans Muriu

He is an Entrepreneur, an Ambassador Business Consultant, Analyst and Philanthropist with an accounting background from Strathmore University
He is an Entrepreneur, an Ambassador Business Consultant, Analyst and Philanthropist with an accounting background from Strathmore University and brand communication and Advertising professional certified by an International Advertising School endorsed by Advertising Practitioners Association (APA), the association of public relations and communication management firms (APreCom) and Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). He has over 9 years experience in Project Management, with specific concentration on youth and development, driven by his passion for enabling the youth in Kenya. He is also a mentor and a career counsellor, both at the individual and institution level.
Evans has ventured into the Car industry where his firm (Vance Motors) sells cars and offers transport services. In addition, he has also set up a business consulting firm (Vance Consult) where structures and strategies are formulated to help brands achieve desired results with resources within their reach, budget notwithstanding.
To give back to the society, Evans founded Kuna Vijana an initiative that seeks to empower the youth socially and economically to make them independent and responsible citizens by using but not limited to talent. Through Kuna Vijana, Evans founded Wanadamu an initiative that seeks to bridge the gap between those in need of blood and blood donors. Ten weeks after Wanadamu was founded, the initiative earned Evans the Innovations Award 2011 through the Spread the Love initiative.
Evans aims to retire soon to focus on philanthropic and investment engagements on full time basis.

Jane Waithera

Ms. Waithera is a fierce human rights advocate, mentor and a social entrepreneur who uses her unique, larger than life personality to change mindsets on albinism
Ms. Waithera is a fierce human rights advocate, mentor and a social entrepreneur who uses her unique, larger than life personality to change mindsets on albinism, a rare genetic condition that she was born with. Ms. Waithera has faced internal and external battles because of her condition, including being abandoned by her mother and living in fear of her life because persons with albinism in Africa are hunted down for ritual killings.
She has over 10 years’ experience in various fields of the disability and leadership sector, particularly in albinism issues. She promotes inclusive communities that uphold the rights of persons with albinism to empowerment, equality, dignity, justice and self-reliance through public awareness, economic empowerment, education and mentorship.
She is a recipient of different local and international awards for her continuous work on albinism advocacy with a focus on innovative and sustainable ways of raising awareness and reducing the stigma associated with albinism. Her life goals are to inspire, engage and transform the lives of people with albinism.
Ms Waithera holds a BA in leadership & Management and currently Pursuing her Msc in Organizational Development at USIU-Africa

Joseph, a young lad with albinism has been using his communication skills to demystify the myths and misconceptions surrounding persons with albinism to enable the community and the society understand true facts about albinism. Through new media communication, Joseph believes that advocacy for the rights of persons with albinism will be achieved effectively and will impact a positive change where diversity is embraced with dignity and respect
